The measure, to be rolled out after the summer, will turn almost all public parking into paid parking. 165 green zone spaces will be created, exclusively for residents at a symbolic price, although the possibility of including workers is being considered. The blue zone, which will extend along the coastline, will be primarily for visitors, but residents will also be able to use it at the same rates as the green zone. The aim is to encourage vehicle turnover.
A study commissioned in 2025 identified the increasing parking problem. According to the data, Cadaqués has approximately 3,800 parking spaces in total, including public roads, the SABA car park, hotels, private spaces, and free municipal lots. The four available free municipal lots offer between 100 and 290 spaces.
The study also warned that during the summer months, by eleven in the morning, available spaces are already 100% occupied. This leads to traffic problems for vehicles trying to enter and park in the municipality.
The Councillor for Mobility, Ismael Vila, acknowledged the lack of land to create park-and-ride facilities on the outskirts. Therefore, the solution involves promoting internal mobility and creating parking for residents, another challenge for the municipality due to its topography.
The intention is for these paid parking zones to be managed by the municipality, with plans to acquire a mobile application for their administration. In parallel, information panels will be installed, and the municipal website will be consulted to indicate available spaces in paid car parks and free lots, thanks to installed vehicle counters.
