Castelló d'Empúries hosts "Miquel Pujol Canelles" Conference Cycle

The XXXIV Terra de Trobadors Festival focuses on the figure of knight Guillem Escarrer with conferences, presentations, and a cross-border cultural project.

The "Miquel Pujol Canelles" Conference Cycle, part of the XXXIV Terra de Trobadors Festival, will take place in Castelló d'Empúries on September 11th and 12th, focusing on the figure of knight Guillem Escarrer.

The "Miquel Pujol Canelles" Conference Cycle, organized by the Centre d’Estudis Trobadorescos of the Town Hall of Castelló d'Empúries with the collaboration of the Institut de Llengua i Cultura Catalanes of the University of Girona, will be held on September 11th and 12th, 2026. This year, the festival focuses on the theme "Guillem Escarrer (1266-1321). From Castelló d’Empúries to the Kingdom of Naples".
The cycle includes the presentation of the book "De Castelló d’Empúries al Regne de Nàpols. La trajectòria vital de Guillem Escarrer (ca. 1266-1321)" by Elvis Mallorquí Garcia, Doctor in Medieval History. This presentation, by the author and the Councillor for Culture, Josep Maria Gironella, will take place on Friday, September 11th, at 6 PM in the Capella de Santa Clara. The book is the fourth volume in the "Estudis medievals" collection from the Centre d’Estudis Trobadorescos and the Museu d’Història Medieval de la Cúria-Presó.
On Saturday, September 12th, at 11 AM in the Sala Gòtica of the Palau dels Comtes, historian Lluís Sales Favà will give the lecture "When a feudal lord from Castelló d’Empúries governed Cassà de la Selva. Guillem Escarrer, 13th-14th centuries". Immediately after, the cross-border cultural project "Ruta Catalana dels Trobadors i la Joglaria" will be presented, with FEDER support.
This project involves the Centre d’Estudis Trobadorescos, the municipalities of Canet de Rosselló and Gombrèn, and the Occitan ensemble Trob’art Productions. As part of the activities, on Friday, September 11th, at 8 PM, the "Carro dels Trobadors i Joglars" will arrive at plaça Mn. Cinto Verdaguer.
At 6 PM on the same Saturday, also in the Sala Gòtica, the lecture "Ponç Hug IV of Empúries (1277-1313), a troubadour count between Castelló d’Empúries and Sicily" will be delivered by Ivan Vera Martínez, a Doctoral student in Philology.
