Civil Protection issues emergency alert for severe winds in Pyrenees and Empordà

The ES-Alert system warns citizens to avoid travel as wind gusts reach 150 km/h in northern Catalonia.

Civil Protection issued an ES-Alert this Saturday morning to mobile phones in Alt Empordà and the Pyrenees due to dangerous wind conditions.

Authorities recommend cancelling outdoor Carnival parades and avoiding all non-essential travel. Wind speeds have hit 140 km/h in Portbou and nearly 150 km/h in the Ebre region.
