The Festival Portalblau 2026 celebrates its 19th edition in Alt Empordà, offering 29 cultural activities from May to October, combining music, performing arts, and thought.

The Festival Portalblau reaches its 19th edition, solidifying L'Escala and Empúries as summer cultural hubs in the Empordà region. From May 16th to October 17th, the festival will present a total of 29 activities, including 18 concerts, blending music, performing arts, thought, heritage, and the Mediterranean landscape. Organized by the L'Escala Town Council, the Museu d'Arqueologia de Catalunya, and TEM Productions, the event aims to extend beyond the summer season, offering a cultural experience deeply rooted in the territory.
The lineup features prominent Catalan and Mediterranean artists such as Sopa de Cabra, La Fúmiga, Judit Neddermann with the GIO Symphonia, Maria del Mar Bonet, Clara Peya, Maria Jaume, Elena Gadel, and Manu Guix. The main concerts will take place in iconic venues like Mar d’en Manassa and the Fòrum Romà at MAC-Empúries, strengthening the connection between music, historical heritage, and the natural environment.
The festival also highlights emerging talents in the current music scene, with artists like Victòria Vilalta, Amaia Miranda, Anna d’Ivori, Roger Padrós, L’arannà, Gregotechno, NAINA, and LECOQ. This balance between established names and emerging talent, featuring ten new artistic proposals, constitutes over a third of the program.
Performing arts will have a significant presence with dance, clowning, magic, poetry, and performance pieces. Highlights include Gota, a street performance about water and its preservation; LIFE, a participatory urban ceremony; Jarana by Cia. Laia Santanach; Mil Primaveres by the Esbart Manresà; and Germans Ortega, a fusion of poetry, electronics, and scenic action.
The Mirades Blaves cycle, the festival's thought space, will host speakers such as Francesc Torralba, Carles Duarte, Queralt Solé, Jordi Pigem, Juan García del Muro, and neurologist Yolanda Silva Blas. Conferences will address topics like human dignity, historical memory, the role of women in the Civil War, technological challenges, and stroke prevention.
The festival also promotes its own programs, such as the Programa Valors i Compromís (Values and Commitment Program), focusing on sustainability, equality, and support for solidarity projects. Last year, the guide Guia per a la incorporació de la perspectiva de gènere en l’organització de festivals (Guide for Incorporating Gender Perspective in Festival Organization) was published. The Llavors project connects arts and education in rural schools in Alt Empordà.
With the creation of Espai PROA, the festival supports emerging local talent through a competition and the inclusion of 10 new proposals in the program. This initiative aims to provide platforms for artists at the beginning of their careers.
Featuring activities in L'Escala, Empúries, Vilajuïga, and Biure, the Festival Portalblau once again champions culture as a tool for gathering, reflection, and shared emotion. Tickets, priced between 2 and 46 euros, are now available on the festival's official website.
