The Chamber's Commission for Institutional Affairs has greenlit the initiative, promoted by the CUP and supported by Esquerra, Junts, and the Comuns. The text stipulates that upon closure, the area will be protected and integrated into the future Albera Natural Park.
The proposal acknowledges the "historical problems" caused by the base, such as "shots and explosions at any hour" and the distress caused when projectiles have strayed beyond the base's perimeter. It also criticizes that military exercises occupy public space, close rural paths, and negatively impact the area's cultural and landscape heritage.
The document highlights that military maneuvers have affected areas within the Natura 2000 Network, causing fires and harming local fauna and flora. Furthermore, it notes that projectiles have impacted the region's megalithic heritage, including menhirs and dolmens.
The resolution passed with favorable votes from the CUP, Esquerra, Junts, and the Comuns. The PSC, PP, and Vox voted against it, while Aliança Catalana was not present for the vote.
