Unemployment Falls in Catalonia and Spain, Reaching Record Lows

The month of May has concluded with a notable decrease in unemployment across Catalonia and Spain, marking lows not seen in almost two decades.

In L'Hospitalet, May ended with 248 fewer people registered as unemployed, bringing the total to 11,160. This figure represents an improvement compared to the 11,408 unemployed recorded in April. When compared to the same month last year, unemployment has decreased by 609 people, as there were 11,769 jobless individuals then.
At the Catalan level, the downward trend in unemployment remains strong. May concluded with 307,627 people out of work, the lowest figure in the last 18 years. This reduction accounts for 6,900 fewer unemployed individuals than in April, translating to a 2.19% decrease.
Within the Spanish State, the drop in unemployment is also consistent. During May, the number of jobless people decreased by 36,323 (-1.54%) compared to the previous month. The total registered unemployment stands at 2,320,721 people, 5.5% less than in May 2025. This figure marks the lowest level for this month since 2007, prior to the outbreak of the housing crisis.
