A 78-year-old man, a resident of Figueres, died on Friday morning in Vila-sacra (Alt Empordà) after suffering a sudden indisposition that caused his vehicle to crash into a building.

The incident occurred on Comerç street in Vila-sacra when the driver, operating a van, lost control of the vehicle and hit the facade of a building.
Witnesses immediately alerted the emergency telephone number 112, reporting that the man appeared unconscious. Officers from the Mossos d'Esquadra, the Firefighters, and the Medical Emergency System (SEM) were dispatched to the scene.

Medical personnel performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers on the victim, who had reportedly gone into cardiac arrest, but the efforts were unsuccessful.

The Mossos d'Esquadra Traffic Unit confirmed that they do not consider the event a traffic accident, but rather a medical incident. The autopsy, to be performed at the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences of Girona, will determine the exact cause of the indisposition.
