Catalan farmers are maintaining traffic cuts at key points like the AP-7 in Alt Empordà and the A-2 in Fondarella, after spending the night on the roads, awaiting a meeting with Minister Òscar Ordeig this afternoon in Tarragona.

The farmers spent the night of January 9 on the roads, using tents, trailers, and vehicles, as a sign of firm protest against the trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur. This treaty faces a crucial day in Brussels, where it is expected to be unblocked.

"We urge Europe to vote against it so we can continue working. The protests are being held for food safety."

Pere Roqué · President of ASAJA Catalunya
The main blockade points are concentrated on the AP-7 between Borrassà and Vilademuls, on the A-2 between Bell-lloc d’Urgell and Mollerussa, and at the accesses to the Port of Tarragona (A-27 and T-11). Additionally, the C-16 between Casserres and Berga is also cut due to a separate demonstration.

"The Mercosur agreement is a collective problem that will affect public health and the economy, among many other sectors."

Jordi Ginebreda · Spokesperson for Revolta Pagesa in the Girona regions
The meeting with the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, Òscar Ordeig, is scheduled for around 4 PM in Tarragona. Farmers, led by figures such as Pere Roqué, demand that the Government of Catalonia clearly position itself against the treaty, regretting that the Spanish Minister, Luís Planas, has minimized its potential negative impact.
