The city of Figueres, renowned as the birthplace of Salvador Dalí, has extended its artistic legacy to become a prominent setting for film and television productions, attracting filmmakers with its rich architecture and historic streets.

Beyond being the birthplace of the surrealist genius Salvador Dalí and home to his famous Theatre-Museum, Figueres, the capital of Alt Empordà, has left its mark on the audiovisual world. Its unique architecture, historic streets, and natural surroundings have captivated directors who have found the town an ideal backdrop for their stories.
One of the most notable productions to use Figueres as a backdrop is the film Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, released in 2006. Several scenes from this international production were shot in the city's old town, particularly in the Plaça de l'Ajuntament and its adjacent narrow streets.
These areas, with their medieval architecture and an air of mystery, proved perfect for recreating the atmosphere of 18th-century Paris, where a crucial part of the plot unfolds. The film's director, Tom Tykwer, was not only fascinated by the challenge of adapting Patrick Süskind's work but also saw Catalonia as a magnificent setting, including locations in Girona and Manresa.
More recently, the Spanish Netflix series Iron Reign also chose the capital of Alt Empordà as a filming location. Specifically, the city's abandoned prison, which has been disused since 2014, served as the setting for one of the most important exterior sequences in episode 3 of this thriller about drug trafficking in the port of Barcelona.
