The Figueres City Council Local Government Board has approved licenses for eight new Tourist Use Housing (HUT) units across different areas of the city this March 2026.

This decision follows Decree Law 3/2023 from the Generalitat de Catalunya, which regulates tourist accommodations. Figueres established a municipal agreement in October 2025 to cap the growth of this sector and ensure residential balance.
Based on official data, the capital of Alt Empordà had 20,960 homes at the end of 2024. Following the POUM urban plan updated in 2023, the council set a maximum limit of 2,096 tourist rentals for 2025, representing 10% of the total housing stock.
The new licenses are located in the historic center, including Sant Vicenç and Sant Pere streets, as well as the Eixample and Cendrassos neighborhoods.
