A family from Figueres has denounced their extreme housing emergency, having lived in a single room for three years while the father is currently forced to sleep in a car.

The situation for Rut and her family in Alt Empordà has reached a breaking point. Although her husband holds a permanent contract at Amazon earning 1,500 euros per month, the lack of job seniority and high rental prices prevent them from securing a home. Currently, she and her two children, aged eight and four, share a room at her mother's house, while the father has been sleeping in the family car since January 7th.

"With 1,500 euros for four people, you cannot live. If you pay 500 or 600 euros in rent, at the end of the month you have to choose between paying for utilities or buying food."

Rut · Affected mother
The mother criticizes the lack of empathy from Figueres City Council social services, stating that their income exceeds the threshold for aid, even though local rents between 690 and 790 euros make private housing unaffordable. The family is urgently requesting social housing adapted to their financial reality.
