The French discount product chain GiFi has definitively closed its store in Vilatenim (Figueres) after the Christmas campaign, dragged down by the severe economic crisis and creditor proceedings of the parent company Gifies.

The French chain GiFi, owned by Gifies, is immersed in an economic crisis that has caused a constant trickle of closures across Spain and significant changes in the rest of Europe, having entered creditor proceedings. This situation forced the closure of the Figueres establishment after liquidating its stock following the Christmas campaign.
The company, specializing in discount home decor and products, initially opened in Figueres on Empordà street. In 2018, it made a strong commitment, investing one million euros to relocate to the Vilatenim commercial area, occupying the former Brico Esteba warehouse with a staff of twelve employees, as part of an ambitious expansion plan that has now been halted.
The closure in Figueres adds to other key establishments in the country, such as those in Castelló de la Plana, Barcelona, and Vigo, affected by the group's heavy indebtedness. Internationally, GiFi has also had to negotiate the sale of its thirty stores in Switzerland to the Maxi Bazar group. In Vilatenim, the closure was announced with two simple handwritten sheets of paper.
