Both entities, the Red Cross and Maritime Rescue (Salvamento Marítimo), joined forces on January 19, 2026, to carry out an important training maneuver in the waters of l'Escala, in the Alt Empordà region. These types of exercises are crucial for ensuring maximum effectiveness in real coastal emergency situations.
The main objective of the day was to test communication protocols and operational coordination between the rescue teams. Several scenarios were simulated, including the search and rescue of people at sea and medical evacuation, involving fast boats and specialized personnel from both organizations.
Constant preparation and inter-institutional coordination are vital to guarantee the safety of swimmers and sailors on the Catalan coast.
This joint exercise is part of the annual training plan for the Red Cross and Maritime Rescue, which seeks to standardize procedures and familiarize volunteers and professionals with the resources and working methods of the other entity. Regular collaboration is essential to reduce response times in the event of serious incidents.
