The President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, has announced that he will request support from the Military Emergencies Unit (UME) of the Armed Forces to extinguish the fire affecting La Bisbal d'Empordà. This request, as he explained, was made to him by Civil Protection and will be forwarded to the Ministry of Defence.
Given the scale of the fire, which has forced the confinement of 12 municipalities, the president has been firm in demanding that affected residents strictly follow the instructions of the emergency teams.
Furthermore, Illa has called on citizens throughout Catalonia, and "especially from the metropolitan area," to avoid traveling to the Empordà region to facilitate firefighting efforts and ensure safety.
