The Ecomuseu Farinera in Castelló d'Empúries reopens its doors this Friday after a comprehensive renovation that connects industrial heritage with reflections on food and sustainability.

The Ecomuseu Farinera in Castelló d'Empúries inaugurates this Friday a comprehensive renovation that transforms its exhibition discourse, connecting industrial heritage with themes such as food, health, and sustainability. The project, which involved an investment of 783,000 euros, has been entirely funded by European Next Generation EU funds.
The new museography is developed in two main areas: the historic flour mill, which showcases the operation of the old factory and its original machinery, and the ÀgoraTeca, a new space dedicated to food, health, and sustainability. This space invites reflection on eating habits, the Mediterranean diet, ultra-processed foods, and local consumption.
The museographic project uses wheat, flour, and bread as a common thread to explain the evolution of the flour industry and its impact on society and the environment. The renovation also integrates the landscape of the Empordà, reinforcing the link between the factory, the territory, and natural resources.
The visit combines original machinery, audiovisuals, interactive resources, and participatory experiences to offer a dynamic and accessible proposal for all audiences. Universal accessibility criteria have been applied, both physical and sensory/cognitive. The content is available in Catalan, Spanish, English, and French.
This museographic renovation is the result of a project initiated in 2022 and was made possible by the selection of the application for a national call for Next Generation EU funds. Out of 92 projects approved nationwide, only 11 were from Catalan municipalities. Castelló d'Empúries received funding for two projects, with this being one of the main ones.
