Maritime Rescue successfully saved the fishing boat Gravina Segon, carrying two crew members, after it lost engine power south of Cap Norfeu (Alt Empordà) earlier this morning.

The Barcelona Rescue Coordination Centre (CCS) received the emergency call regarding a vessel in distress in the Cap de Creus area. The fast rescue boat Salvamar Lyra, based at the port of Roses, was immediately deployed to assist the fishing vessel.
The fourteen-meter-long boat suffered a breakdown that left it unable to maneuver in an area affected by heavy swell and the Tramuntana wind. The towing operation back to the port of Roses was completed without incident, with the head of the Fishermen's Guild of Roses, Antoni Abad, confirming that the crew was safe.

"the important work that this service offers from the base in Roses"

José Luis García Lena · Maritime Rescue Director (2023)
The Salvamar Lyra has been operating from Roses since 2023, replacing its predecessor, the Salvamar Castor. This vessel, built at the Auxiliar Naval del Principado shipyards in Asturias, represented an investment of 2.3 million euros and is vital for covering nautical emergencies along the northern Costa Brava.
