The emergency services received a call at 11:15 AM reporting an unconscious person in the water. Lifeguards pulled him out and attempted resuscitation on the sand, but without success.
Four units from the Emergency Medical System (SEM) were dispatched to the scene but were unable to save his life. Three units from the Mossos d’Esquadra, Maritime Rescue, and Local Police were also alerted.
This incident brings the total number of drowning deaths on Catalan beaches to 18 since the start of the swimming season on June 15. Including deaths in swimming pools and inland waters, the figure rises to 30.
Civil Protection has reiterated its call for caution, as the number of drowned swimmers has increased compared to the same period last year.
At the time of the incident, the beach in Roses had lifeguard services and a green flag was flying.
