The Department of Agriculture confirmed a new focus of contagious nodular dermatosis at a farm in Capmany (Alt Empordà), where 106 head of cattle must be culled.

The Capmany farm operates under extensive livestock farming, which complicated the vaccination of all 106 animals, although some were immunized. This is the eighteenth focus detected in Catalonia since the first case appeared on October 3 in Castelló d'Empúries.

"There are veterinarians responsible for vaccination, how is it that they did not report that not all animals were vaccinated? It is the administration's responsibility, and if vaccination is mandatory, it must be enforced."

Due to this new outbreak, sanitary restrictions and livestock immobilization will be reapplied within a 30-kilometer radius of the focus for a minimum of 45 days. This measure affects municipalities that were due to lift restrictions, such as those within the Castelló d'Empúries perimeter.
The last case had been detected on October 24, and authorities reported on November 7 that containment was being achieved. In total, previous outbreaks affected 17 farms (16 in Alt Empordà and 1 in Gironès) and required the culling of over 2,500 cattle.
The Ministry of Agriculture has now set January 31 as the deadline for immunizing cattle. After this date, movements of unvaccinated animals will not be authorized to ensure disease control.
