The new focus, confirmed by the Department of Agriculture this Wednesday, is located on an extensive livestock farm in the municipality of Capmany. This farm had only vaccinated a portion of the livestock, even though regulations require total immunization to prevent the spread of the disease.
“"The administration has not ensured that all animals in the region were immunized."
Following the detection of the outbreak, which is the eighteenth recorded in Catalonia, the culling of the 106 bovines on the farm has been ordered. Furthermore, movement and sanitary restrictions will be reapplied to farms closest to the Capmany focus.
The last positive case of Lumpy Skin Disease had been detected on October 24, and the reappearance of the disease underscores the need to reinforce biosecurity measures and vaccination programs in the Alt Empordà area.
