Meteorological stations of the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat) in Alt Empordà recorded tropical nights during June, with episodes of intense heat surpassing 35°C in several locations.

The month of June has been marked by persistent heat across Catalonia, particularly in Alt Empordà, where all meteorological stations have registered tropical nights. The climatic situation has been described as warm throughout the country and very warm in areas such as the Central Depression, the Pyrenees, and the Southern Pre-coastal Range.
The station in Cabanes recorded the highest temperature for June at 38.7 °C. Additionally, temperatures exceeded 35°C on eleven days in June across various locations in the region, including Cabanes, Castelló d'Empúries, Pantà de Darnius - Boadella, Espolla, Navata, Portbou, Roses, Sant Pere Pescador, and Torroella de Fluvià.
Aleix Serra, head of data quality control at Meteocat, explains that June has behaved climatically like July, with an intense heatwave in the second half of the month. This episode stood out for its persistence, with temperatures well above the climatic average between June 19th and 30th.
Nights have been particularly warm along the coast. The stations in Portbou and Espolla recorded one torrid night, while Cabanes registered two, with minimums of 25°C and maximums of 29.9°C. In terms of tropical nights (minimum temperatures not below 20°C), Portbou recorded 19, followed by Roses with eight and Darnius-Boadella with seven. The remaining stations in the region recorded at least one.
Although June 2026 has not been an absolute record, the second half of the month has matched the previous year as the warmest recorded for a June. Meteocat has counted at least three precedents of intense June heat in recent years, including historic episodes in 2019 and 2022, and June 2025 as the warmest from the perspective of average monthly temperature.
