Òscar Ordeig calls for "responsibility to avoid greater harm" amid farmer road closures

The Catalan Minister of Agriculture confirms blockades lifted in Lleida, but major routes like the AP-7 and N-II in Girona remain affected.

The Catalan Minister of Agriculture, Òscar Ordeig, called for responsibility from farmers protesting the EU-Mercosur agreement, as several road closures remained active across Catalonia this Saturday.

Òscar Ordeig, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of the Generalitat, made the request via a post on X, reported by Europa Press, regarding the road blockades initiated by farmers on Thursday. The protests are specifically aimed at the trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and Mercosur.

Ordeig confirmed that blockades in Lleida, Pont de Suert, and Sort had been lifted with "full collaboration and without incident." He also stated that he is maintaining "constant" contact with guild representatives to negotiate the lifting of the remaining closures.
Although traffic normalized on the A-2 between Bell-lloc d’Urgell and Mollerussa, according to the Servei Català de Trànsit, several cuts remain active. Affected routes include the AP-7, between Borrassà and Vilademuls (Girona), the N-II, between Bàscara and Garrigàs (Girona), the A-27 at the Port of Tarragona, the C-16 from Casserres to Berga (Barcelona) and the C-38 in Molló (Girona).
