The Carme Church in Peralada served as the historical setting for this recovery, where Vespres d'Arnadí and the Cor Francesc Valls, under the direction of Dani Espasa, brought the piece to life. The event took place on Maundy Thursday, with an attendance of 200 people, including public figures such as the president of the Diputació, Miquel Noguer, former president of the Generalitat, Josep Montilla, and former minister Joaquim Nadal.
“"Behold the man you have sent to his death. Look at him well. I say openly: I find no fault in him that deserves death."
The oratorio, composed by Antonio Caldara, second chapel master at the Viennese court of Charles VI, narrates the trial of Jesus before Pontius Pilate. The libretto by Pietro Pariati enriches the biblical narrative with allegorical figures such as the Sacred Text, interpreted by Maite Beaumont, and the Penitent Soul, performed by Ana Quintans, exploring themes of guilt and repentance.
Soprano Montserrat Seró, in the role of Pilate's wife, warned her husband about popular pressure, while baritone Josep Ramon Olivé, as the leader of the people, pronounced the condemnation. The Cor Francesc Valls represented the crowd demanding Jesus' crucifixion, ultimately transforming into a choir of angels elevating the condemned to heaven.
