The town of Portbou, in Alt Empordà, experienced a tropical night with a minimum temperature of 21.6 degrees this Friday, an exceptional figure for mid-April, just before a meteorological shift bringing rain and a significant drop in temperatures to the Girona regions.

This Friday, Portbou recorded a minimum temperature of 21.6 degrees Celsius, a value considered a tropical night and highly unusual for mid-April. This data, captured by the automatic station of Portbou - coll dels Belitres, makes the early morning one of the most anomalous of this spring's beginning in the northern Alt Empordà area.
The reading was taken at 5:14 UTC (7:14 local time), after the border municipality had maintained temperatures above 20 degrees throughout the night. This threshold defines a tropical night, a phenomenon more typical of late May or June than of April 10. At the same station, located at 198 meters of altitude, the provisional maximum temperature had already reached 26 degrees at 9:23 UTC (11:23 local time), with wind gusts of up to 88.9 kilometers per hour due to the tramontana wind.
This heat episode, however, has a limited duration. Meteorological forecasts indicate a drastic change for the weekend. While Girona could go from a maximum of 29 degrees this Friday to 17 degrees on Sunday, in Portbou the thermometer will drop from 24 to 13 degrees in the same period. The temperature decrease will become more evident from Sunday, with increased cloudiness, precipitation, and wind, especially intense in the north of the province.
Thus, Alt Empordà will experience a divided weekend: Friday and Saturday will maintain mild or warm weather, but Sunday is expected to bring a significant cool-down in the city of Girona and a much windier situation on the northern coast of the Costa Brava. This data from Portbou is the clearest sign of this sudden weather shift in the Girona regions.
