The event will take place within the framework of the XXXIV Terra de Trobadors Festival. The project involves the participation of the Castelló d’Empúries Town Hall, through the Centre d’Estudis Trobadorescos, alongside the municipalities of Canet del Rosselló, Gombrèn, and the Occitan ensemble Trob’art Productions. Funding is provided by the FEDER POCTEFA 2021-2027 program, through the Catalan Transborder Space (ESCAT).
The main objective is to create the Catalan Troubadours' Route, an element that will articulate landscape, heritage, culture, institutions, and associations within the Catalan Transborder Space, with European projection aiming to become part of the Council of Europe's Cultural Routes Programme. This ambitious project seeks to internationalize the Terra de Trobadors Festival of Castelló d’Empúries, promoting the cultural, landscape, architectural, literary, and musical heritage of troubadours and minstrels.
The initiative prioritizes promoting the cross-border territory as a sustainable tourist destination, developing common culture and heritage, and fostering the activity of cultural agents. Planned actions include the creation of the Route, a traveling medieval music performance, the publication of a promotional CD-book, a traveling exhibition, and various cultural activities such as concerts, conferences, publications, and workshops.
Castelló d’Empúries contributes to the project with the recognition of 33 editions of the Terra de Trobadors Festival and its experience in previous cross-border cultural projects. The Centre d’Estudis Trobadorescos and the Museum of Medieval History of the Cúria-Presó collaborate with the Institute of Catalan Language and Culture of the University of Girona for academic and research activities.
The FEDER subsidy for the Castelló d’Empúries Town Hall amounts to €30,872.40. The festival's annual activities, such as the "Mot so razo" magazine, the conference cycle, the thematic festival book publication, the "So de Lonh" cycle concerts, and street animation activities, are integrated into this project.
Throughout the past year and the current year, technical meetings have been held to finalize the activity program, which is scheduled to conclude in June 2027. The project was previously presented at the Museu d’Història de Catalunya last July.
In addition to the institutional presentation, one of the highlighted activities will be the arrival of the "Carro dels Trobadors i Joglars" (Troubadours and Minstrels' Cart) on Friday, September 11th, 2026, at 8:00 PM in the plaça Mn. Cinto Verdaguer, which will join the festival's inaugural show.
