The detainees, aged between 23 and 33, were arrested on August 7th, 8th, and 15th by the Guàrdia Urbana. The thefts impacted nine locations across the city, primarily in the eastern part, leaving several streets in darkness for days.
One of the detainees was arrested twice in a short period: the first time carrying a bag of stolen wiring, and the second time tampering with an inspection chamber on Camí Vell de Vilatenim. Another individual was found with a 40-meter coil of copper cable stolen from the municipal warehouse, Can Sagrera.
Collectively, the three individuals have 34 prior police records. After appearing before the Figueres district court, provisional detention has been ordered for all of them.
The areas most affected by the copper thefts include streets such as Gorgs, Polígon Clos de Fires, Via Làctia, Cranc, Alemanya, França, Passeig del Camí de Vilatenim, Caputxins, the Llançà to Portbou road, Compositor Coll street, and Vilamaniscle street. The Figueres City Council is working to fully restore the public lighting service, a task that involves removing damaged material, installing new wiring, and inspecting electrical connections.
