The population of foreign nationality has seen an increase between 2023 and 2025 in Girona municipalities with over 18,000 inhabitants. In Roses and Figueres, this growth has translated into an increase in their demographic weight, reaching 30.30% and 29.27% respectively.
According to data from the annual Population Census by the Institut d’Estadística de Catalunya (Idescat), Olot is the municipality where the weight of the foreign population has grown the most, rising from 25.36% to 27.78% in two years. The absolute number of foreign residents has increased from 9,637 to 10,979.
Palamós also stands out with an advance from 15.05% to 17.36%, despite maintaining the lowest percentage among the analyzed municipalities. Sant Feliu de Guíxols goes from 19.41% to 20.62%, and Girona from 20.74% to 21.92%. The capital of Girona concentrates the largest absolute number of foreign residents with 23,753 people in 2025.
In Figueres, the percentage has grown from 28.17% to 29.27%, with 14,506 foreign residents. Palafrugell has risen from 23.72% to 24.73%, and Blanes from 18.83% to 19.67%. The increase in Roses has been more moderate, from 30.08% to 30.30%.
In contrast, Salt and Banyoles have seen a decrease in the percentage of foreign population despite an increase in absolute numbers. In Salt, the percentage has dropped from 37.77% to 37.07% due to higher growth in the total population. In Banyoles, the percentage has decreased from 19.39% to 19.14%.
Lloret de Mar has also experienced a slight decrease in percentage, from 38.85% to 38.48%, although it remains the municipality with the highest proportion of foreign residents among the large Girona municipalities, followed by Salt.
