The president of the Santa Margarida merchants' association, Ricardo Moraes, has raised the alarm over squatted apartments in Roses being repurposed as storage facilities for illegal street vending.

According to Moraes, his own property was occupied just three days after purchase and is now being used to store top manta merchandise. He highlights a growing concern in the Alt Empordà coastal town regarding how easily illegal occupants can register at the local town hall without the owners being notified.

"It is very frustrating to see your apartment turn into a business for others. They even pay money to get the keys to a squatted flat."

The association plans to bring these issues to the Roses city council, demanding stricter controls on the municipal census and increased police presence to combat the rise in burglaries and illegal activities affecting the local tourism industry.
