Strong winds and a high avalanche risk in the Lleida Pyrenees have prompted Civil Protection to activate emergency plans, affecting train services between Figueres and Portbou and urging maximum caution during Easter Week.

The General Directorate of Civil Protection of the Generalitat de Catalunya, in collaboration with the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC), has issued an alert for a 'strong' avalanche danger in the Aran-Franja Nord Pallaresa area of the Lleida Pyrenees. This situation, expected from Wednesday morning, has led to the pre-alert of the Allaucat plan and the recommendation to avoid activities outside controlled areas.
Concurrently, intense wind gusts sweeping across northern Catalonia have caused the interruption of Rodalies train services between Figueres and Portbou, in the Alt Empordà region. Since 2:00 PM on Tuesday, lines R11 and RG1 have ceased operations to ensure passenger safety, as reported by Renfe, with service expected to resume in approximately two hours.

The Generalitat has once again urged the public to exercise caution, as the alert coincides with Easter Week, a holiday period. Particular care is requested in these areas of Catalonia and when engaging in outdoor activities.

The special plan for strong wind risk in Catalonia (Vencat) remains activated in alert phase, anticipating gusts that could exceed 90 km/h, especially in the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, and the Alt and Baix Empordà regions. Renfe has implemented an alternative road transport plan for affected users until weather conditions allow for the safe resumption of railway circulation.
