The police operation took place on the morning of April 25, when National Police agents, conducting prevention duties in the border area of La Jonquera, observed two vehicles, a van and a car, performing evasive maneuvers to avoid a checkpoint. As the patrol approached, the three occupants of the vehicles attempted to flee, initiating a pursuit that ended with the interception of the suspects.
During the search of the van, which ostensibly transported furniture, agents detected a strong smell of marijuana. A more thorough inspection revealed the existence of false bottoms in the cargo area, as well as other secret compartments in the doors and sides of the vehicle.
In total, 62 packages of marijuana were seized, weighing a total of 73.38 kilograms. The three men were arrested for a crime against public health. All of them have numerous previous records for drug trafficking, belonging to a criminal organization, and illegal possession of weapons.
