Toni Sánchez, who was previously the assistant coach at Europa, quickly accepted the offer from the historic Alt Empordà club, despite the complicated moment the team is going through, having already had two managers this season. The main objective is to “add three points at a time” to move away from the danger zone.
“"The people of Figueres are from Figueres, they are not from Girona or any other team. If I manage to increase that feeling by just one percent, I will be happy."
The coach from Sant Gregori highlighted that, although the Vilatenim stadium and changing rooms are the same as when he managed the Youth team in 2012-13, the club's internal structure is now “more professional and financially sound”. He added that the current squad has renowned players who could be in the “top six of the League” if it weren't for the current context.
Regarding his playing style, Sánchez was clear: “I would love to be offensive, but if we have to set a low block, we will set it. The priority is to score points”. His debut will be an urgent derby this Saturday at 18:00 against Banyoles, a rival currently in an even more critical situation.
