The expansion, made possible by the hiring of a new psychologist, will allow more patients to be treated in the Alt Empordà region.

The Oncolliga Girona Foundation expanded its psycho-oncology service at Figueres Hospital last October, incorporating a new professional to meet the growing demand for emotional support.

The expansion of the service at Figueres Hospital, which was previously only offered at the Bernat Jaume Intermediate Care center, now allows for attention in wards and external consultations. This improvement was made possible by the incorporation of a new psychologist into the Oncolliga team, strengthening coverage in the Alt Empordà.
During the past year, the psycho-oncology service assisted a total of 268 people in the Alt Empordà region. The care is coordinated with professionals from the Hospital Support Team and also includes home care for patients referred by the PADES teams.
In addition to Alt Empordà, the entity has also expanded coverage at Palamós Hospital, where the service has been increased by one day per week. This measure facilitates access to emotional support for the 312 people in Baix Empordà who were assisted the previous year.
The Oncolliga Girona psycho-oncology service is essential for providing emotional and psychological support to cancer patients and their families, helping them manage anxiety, stress, and grief processes associated with the disease. The entity maintains its decentralization policy, with a team of seven psycho-oncologists covering centers in Girona, Figueres, Palamós, Olot, Campdevànol, and Blanes.
