The loan of Marc-André ter Stegen to Girona FC, announced this week, has been one of the most surprising moves of the winter market. The German goalkeeper, formerly captain of Barça, reached an agreement with the Montilivi club until the end of the season, with Girona covering a small portion of his high salary.
This incorporation, which caused a sensation at his presentation with 500 people in the stands, had been imagined much earlier by a young supporter. Adrià Martínez, 9 years old and member number 11.306 of Girona, was the first to link Ter Stegen with the white-and-red club in the spring of 2023.
“"You are a leader and you will give us a lot."
The young boy from Llançà, who currently plays as a goalkeeper for Figueres, asked his godparents for an Easter cake that combined the Girona shield with the figure of Ter Stegen, a feat almost impossible at the time, as the German was undisputed at Barça and Girona had just returned to the First Division.
His admiration for the German, whom he considers 'the best', began when he played for Peralada and his teammates started calling him 'Adrià Stegen'. Now, the young fan faces the dilemma of watching Ter Stegen play, but also regrets the potential loss of Paulo Gazzaniga, the current goalkeeper.
