The events took place on the morning of April 25, when officers conducting prevention duties in the border area of La Jonquera observed a car and a van performing evasive maneuvers to avoid a police checkpoint.
As officers approached, the occupants of both vehicles attempted to flee, initiating a chase that culminated in their interception and the arrest of the three men involved.
During the search of the van, which ostensibly was transporting furniture, officers detected a strong smell of marijuana. This prompted a more detailed inspection of the vehicle, leading to the discovery of several hidden compartments.
The drugs, distributed in 62 vacuum-sealed packages, were concealed in false bottoms built into the rear doors and sides of the van's cargo area, totaling 73.38 kilograms of marijuana buds.
The three detainees have been brought before the judicial authorities, accused of an alleged drug trafficking offense. According to the National Police, the individuals had prior records for drug trafficking, membership in a criminal organization, and illegal possession of weapons.
