Considered an essential figure in the history of table tennis in Alt Empordà, Guanter served as delegate of CER l'Escala from 1978 to 1996. During this period, his dedication was crucial for the growth of the entity, taking on multiple tasks that went beyond the usual responsibilities of a delegate.
One of the most notable moments of his management was the promotion to the Honor Division, currently the second division and then the highest national category, during the 1991/1992 season. This success was achieved after a final phase held in Almería, where the team formed by Michael Adodo, Josep Manel Maillo, and David González won all five matches played.
“"It was not expected to go up."
Guanter emotionally recalls the return home, where the team was received as heroes at the Town Hall and in the square of l'Escala. Since that promotion, CER l'Escala has maintained its presence in the elite of Spanish table tennis, playing only four seasons below the top category in the last thirty years.
His tenure as delegate ended in 1996, after eighteen years of intense dedication. Guanter, owner of a real estate agency in l'Escala, decided to step down due to the exhaustion caused by the heavy workload and lack of support. Despite this, his club vision included the professionalization of the entity and the promotion of young talent, such as Iker González and Norbert Tauler.
“"What happened before was crazy, that all the work fell on the delegate... It couldn't be."
Recently, Guanter has returned to the club as a veteran player, participating in provincial categories. CER l'Escala paid tribute to him last February at the Molí de l'Escala restaurant, gathering nearly a hundred people to recognize his invaluable contribution.
