Several municipalities in Alt Empordà, including Cadaqués and Maçanet de Cabrenys, maintain the sporting tradition of closing the year on December 31 with popular races to compensate for festive meals.

The tradition of popular races has consolidated in the region to help "sweat out the excesses" of the copious Christmas meals. December 31 is the key date for many runners who want to end the year with exercise.
In Cadaqués, the 19th edition of the Sant Silvestre will be held, featuring three different routes: the main race, an event for veterans (over 55 years old), and one for children. Simultaneously, in Maçanet de Cabrenys, the Cursa dels Nassos, organized by the Club Excursionista Maçanetenc (CEM), will start from the square at five in the afternoon.

The popular races have been proliferating in our area with the goal, always demanding, of sweating out the excesses of the copious meals of these days.

The municipality of Roses will be the earliest to start the new year's sporting activities. On January 3, it will host the Cursa Badia de Roses Kids +adaptada, aimed at the youngest participants (juniors, cadets, beginners, and pre-beginners), including a category for young people with reduced mobility.
Furthermore, on Sunday, January 4, the first Mitja Marató Badia de Roses (21 kilometers) and the Cursa Xmas (7.5 kilometers) will take place. These events, organized by the Club Atletisme Roses, were scheduled for the previous Sunday but were postponed due to weather alerts.
