About a hundred farmers from the Girona regions blocked the AP-7 motorway and the N-II road in Pontós starting early on Thursday, January 8, 2026, to protest against the European Union's agricultural policy.

The mobilization, which gathered nearly a hundred tractors from Empordà, began around three in the morning, when the vehicles accessed the AP-7 motorway near Pontós. This action has forced the closure of the road in both directions, causing significant traffic problems in northern Catalonia.
The farmers express their rejection of European agricultural policy, focusing their criticism on the agreement with Mercosur and the planned cuts to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). These measures, according to the organizers, endanger the viability of local farms.
Simultaneously, the protesters also cut off circulation on the N-II. However, by mid-morning, they agreed to reopen this road only for car traffic. The blockade remains in place for trucks on both routes, as the farmers aim to prevent the passage of freight transport connecting the Iberian Peninsula with France.
