The Portbou City Council has approved the municipal budget for 2027, totaling 7,228,979.43 euros, a 6.04% increase from the previous year, to maintain public services and drive investments.

The new accounts consolidate the council's commitment to maintaining and improving the quality of public services, while also promoting major investments for the municipality's transformation. The budget aims to sustain current spending to ensure the smooth operation of municipal services, upkeep of facilities and public spaces, and addressing citizen needs.
One of the highlighted projects is the rehabilitation of the former town hall building to become the Walter Benjamin Memorial Space, a cultural and memory hub. The project has a base tender budget of 4,431,530.95 euros (VAT included), plus 318,469.05 euros for construction management and safety coordination. This space will feature museum, documentary, and academic uses.
The budget also includes the first phase of renovation works for the La Muntanya neighborhood, with an allocated budget of 429,992.33 euros, to improve public spaces and living conditions for residents. Additionally, the El Balcó day center will be expanded with an investment of 150,000.00 euros to increase places for the elderly.
The Mayor of Portbou, Gael Rodríguez, emphasized the importance of municipal transformation through rigorous management of public resources and active pursuit of external funding. He highlighted efforts to maintain balanced budgets and contain tax pressure while preserving service quality and driving necessary investments for the future.
