The Roses rider, Maverick Viñales, 31, has hired five-time world champion Jorge Lorenzo for his pre-season preparation in Sepang, following recovery from a serious shoulder injury.

Most of the 1,500 inhabitants of the MotoGP paddock consider Maverick Viñales, who hails from Roses, one of the most talented and professional riders on the grid. However, last year, at the German Grand Prix held in Sachsenring, Viñales suffered a severe accident in July that fractured 70% of his supraspinatus tendon, one of the worst muscle injuries.

"It may be true that I have a lot of talent, yes, but if I don't use it correctly, it's useless. And, honestly, I haven't used this talent correctly so far. I have won races, yes, but I still haven't achieved the most desired title, the MotoGP one, and we must work hard to try."

After going through the worst months of his career, Viñales is preparing for the first pre-season tests in Sepang, Malaysia. This winter he has worked intensely with Jorge Lorenzo, and even with his father, Chicho, a collaboration that the rider describes as “unique and very profitable”. Viñales assures that Lorenzo has helped him change his approach to competition and discover “everything I still needed to know about MotoGP”.
The rider acknowledges that he has modified aspects of his personal life and training, forced by Lorenzo to train in all conditions. Although his shoulder is much better, Viñales admits that it is difficult for him to relax and that meditation, a technique he has tried to incorporate, is often interrupted by his “too much energy in the body”. Looking ahead, his dream is to win with KTM and he will fight to renew his contract with the factory, as he loves the project.
