Political controversy erupted in Catalunya following the Rodalies accidents in Gelida and Maçanet Massanes, leading the opposition to harshly criticize the chronic neglect of the service and lack of investment.

The opposition bloc, led by Junts per Catalunya, spoke out yesterday against the Rodalies service, calling it “disastrous” and “a victim of decades of underinvestment and lack of maintenance”. Criticism focused on crisis management, especially the service suspension without clear alternatives. The post-convergence party directly demands the dismissal of the Minister of Territory, Sílvia Paneque, and criticizes the transfer promoted by the Govern as a “scam”.

"We must seek solutions, not assign blame, and act united, all administrations, regardless of political color."

Albert Dalmau · Minister of the Presidency
This crisis is not new; serious incidents occurred in March last year, forcing President Salvador Illa to apologize. Nevertheless, the Govern defends the progress made with the Ministry of Transport, led by Óscar Puente, including the creation of the mixed company Rodalies de Catalunya and a committed investment of over 2.5 billion euros in the network.
Ministers Sílvia Paneque and Núria Parlon (Interior) will appear before the Parliament to explain the crisis management. The Comuns also requested the appearance of the president of Adif, Pedro Marco de la Peña. Simultaneously, the Govern approved a decree declaring Friday, January 23, as an official day of mourning for the fatal accident in Gelida, adding to the three days already decreed for the tragedy in Córdoba.
