The strike call, announced on January 21, 2026, affects all drivers across the sector's companies and is presented as the only legal way left to protect both professionals and travelers. The Semaf union insists that their action is not solely labor-related but responds to a matter of public safety and severe accident prevention.
The call is the only legal way left for us to demand the recovery of system safety standards and to protect both professionals and travelers.
Semaf directly links the decision to recent serious accidents on the network, such as those registered in Adamuz (Andalusia) and Gelida (Alt Penedès), which caused fatalities and dozens of injuries, including three drivers, according to the union.
The union has repeatedly warned of structural deficiencies in railway safety that, they claim, have not been addressed by authorities. For this reason, they have completed all necessary legal procedures to formalize the strike and pressure for the adoption of effective measures.
