Fernando Huerta, a 27-year-old trainee driver from Seville, died this Wednesday in the cabin of an R4 train that derailed in Gelida (Alt Penedès) after hitting a collapsed retaining wall, injuring 41 people.

The deceased victim, aged 27 and originally from Seville, was in Barcelona completing his training to become a driver for Renfe. The accident occurred on the stretch between Gelida and Sant Sadurní d'Anoia when the first carriages violently impacted the remains of a retaining wall that had collapsed onto the track.
In addition to the death of Fernando Huerta, who was in the cabin with three other trainee workers and the main driver, the incident resulted in 41 injuries. Of these, five are reported to be in serious condition and six in less serious condition. The Firefighters had to carry out extrication tasks to free one person trapped among the wreckage of the train.
