Filmmaker Pep Puig has presented the series Assaig general in Vilafranca del Penedès, a ten-episode production set to premiere this April on Penedès TV to promote local amateur theater.

The project, unveiled this Monday at l'Escorxador, is a collaboration between the local filmmaker, GATAP (Amateur Theater Groups of Alt Penedès), and the local television station. The series consists of ten 15-minute episodes featuring an original soundtrack by composer Roger Subirana. The main goal is to reveal the lesser-known side of performing arts, from rehearsals to the work of technicians and set designers.

"Amateur theater is the most authentic. Great actors and directors have come from it. We wanted to show the part that isn't usually seen, the mistakes, and the inner workings."

A total of nine groups from the region are participating in this initiative, including ensembles from Subirats, Vilafranca, Gelida, Olèrdola, les Gunyoles, and Sant Joan de Mediona. Culture Councilor Àngels Dalmau emphasized that this production could inspire young people to pursue careers in stage management, sound, or directing.
The official preview will take place this Saturday, February 21st, at the Teatre Municipal Cal Bolet. The event, hosted by actor Toni Regueiro, will include a 55-minute documentary summary. Following the premiere, episodes will air weekly and will be available on-demand via the RTV Vilafranca website.
