The project, coordinated by the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital Research Institute (VHIR), aims to develop an intelligent system to adapt medication dosage to the needs of each individual with advanced Parkinson's. This technology could potentially improve symptom control and quality of life for patients.
The CaixaResearch Call for Health Research selected 32 projects out of 800 research proposals. This recognition highlights a research line pursued by CSAPG for over a decade, focusing on applying new technologies for Parkinson's monitoring and treatment.
Individuals with advanced Parkinson's experience significant fluctuations in medication effectiveness, leading to muscle rigidity or involuntary movements (dyskinesias). The project builds upon previous research by CSAPG and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), which developed a sensor to detect these movement patterns.
The new system will employ artificial intelligence algorithms to analyze data from sensors and infusion pumps, generating personalized dosage recommendations. The study plans to monitor 150 individuals with advanced Parkinson's.
The project involves collaboration with the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute Foundation, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), the Hospital Universitario de A Coruña, and the Parkinson Madrid Association.
