The Junts Vilafranca municipal group reported a severe financial crisis at the Vilafranca del Penedès City Council this March, warning that the local government could face State intervention due to its debt.

According to data released by the party, the 2025 fiscal year ended with a deficit of 5.3 million euros. This figure, combined with a 2 million euro increase in municipal debt, marks a historic low for the city's financial stability.

"We are facing a historic record that threatens the financial stability of the City Council."

Aureli Ruiz · Spokesperson for Junts Vilafranca
Spokesperson Aureli Ruiz stated that the council has a fifteen-day legal window to implement urgent corrective measures. Junts argues that since increasing revenue is unlikely, the city will be forced to make significant budget cuts across various services.
