The former President of the Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont, urgently summoned the leadership of Junts per Catalunya, including elected officials and mayors, to hold a summit this Saturday in Southern France. The meeting, scheduled to start at 11:00 AM, will focus exclusively on the collapse affecting Catalonia's railway and road networks.
This extraordinary meeting replaces the ordinary National Council that was planned to take place in Cardedeu, where the renewal of the financing model was also on the agenda. The leadership decided to postpone internal matters to prioritize the political response to current events. Secretary General Jordi Turull sent the notification message on Thursday night.
“"Now it is the trains, but we could talk about health, education, transport, or housing. Catalonia is not doing well for these three reasons: incompetence, dependence, and submission to the Government in Madrid."
The call comes after Puigdemont, in a video message recorded Thursday morning, accused the Govern led by Salvador Illa of “incompetence” and “lack of leadership” due to the collapse. He also dismissed the announcement by ministers Albert Dalmau and Sílvia Paneque regarding the gradual resumption of the Rodalies service as “propaganda,” as the service ultimately did not resume.
The party's spokesperson in the Parliament, Salvador Vergés, also criticized the “chronic disinvestment” suffered by Catalonia in infrastructure, linking it to the increased probability of accidents, such as the fatal train derailment in Gelida.
The last time Puigdemont convened the Junts leadership across the border in an extraordinary manner, specifically outside Perpignan, was last October, when the decision was made to break with the Pedro Sánchez Government.
