According to provisional data from the Municipal Education Office, the city starts the year with 57 more students than last year. The figure will be adjusted in the coming weeks. Of the total students, 1,124 are in the second cycle of early childhood education, 2,622 in primary education, and 2,910 in compulsory secondary education (ESO).
This academic year, educational centers in Vilafranca have 258 groups in operation. Of these, 54 are for the second cycle of early childhood education, 111 for primary education, and 93 for ESO. The number of groups for early childhood and primary education remains the same, while secondary education sees a reduction of two units.
Regarding the distribution of centers, 10 offer the second cycle of early childhood education and primary education (6 public and 4 subsidized). Secondary education is provided in 5 public institutes and 4 subsidized centers. Class sizes for 3-year-olds in public centers are 18 students per group, while in subsidized centers they range from 20 to 25. For 1st-year ESO, the ratio is 30 students in both public and subsidized centers.
The four municipal nursery schools, offering the first cycle of early childhood education (0-3 years), began the course on September 7th with 100% of places filled, totaling 259 enrolled children. These centers cater to 26.2% of children aged 1 to 2 and 52% of those aged 2 to 3, addressing the need for work-life balance and promoting the holistic development of young children.
