The town of Vilafranca del Penedès has extended its wind emergency phase until 8:00 PM this Thursday following 40 reported incidents caused by severe gusts across the region.

Local authorities have closed all public schools, offices, and parks, including Sant Julià park, to ensure public safety. Mayor Francisco Romero confirmed that the emergency measures follow Generalitat guidelines as the storm is expected to peak during the afternoon.

"Emergency measures will remain active until 8 PM, following the recommended guidelines from the Generalitat."

The weather has forced the postponement of the Carnival opening ceremony. The arrival of King Carnestoltes will now take place on Friday, February 13th. In the nearby village of la Granada, emergency services reported minor damage to a school roof, though no injuries occurred.
