The current situation is the culmination of a process that began in 2013, when the EB El Pàmpol in Sant Pere Molanta closed its i0 classroom, leaving EB Gotims in Moja as the only option for infants in the municipality of Olèrdola.
Before the start of the 2025-2026 academic year, it was announced that the Gotims i0 classroom would not open initially due to low pre-registration. Only three babies were enrolled, while the tender specifications require a minimum of five students for mandatory opening.
“"We believe that the non-opening of the baby classroom is due to a lack of political will. The City Council has the means to cover the cost of this opening, but refuses to do so because they do not consider it a priority."
Affected families had to seek alternatives in September 2025 but continued to insist on the opening, deeming it an essential service. This led to a new pre-registration period in late November, aiming to start activities in January.
Despite the second attempt, which resulted in four enrolled families (three for January and one for February), the City Council maintained its position. Families criticize that nearby municipalities like Sta. Margarida i els Monjos or Torrelavit open classrooms with just one enrolled student, suggesting the refusal stems from a lack of political priority.
