Once again, the residents of Alàs i Cerc have prepared the bonfires that will burn on the night of June 23rd, the eve of Saint John's Day. This year, nearly 70 adult participants will lead the descent, joined by 44 children in the final stretch, an integration aimed at fostering participation and ensuring the festival's continuity. Additionally, 57 volunteers will provide logistical support to guarantee the event's success.
Since late May, participants have gathered at the social center in Alàs to assemble the structures and organize all the details, creating a festive atmosphere in anticipation of the celebration.
The descent will commence at 10:00 PM from the serrat de les Peces. Prior to this, at 8:15 PM, the Plaça Major d'Alàs will host a concert by the Orquestrina Trama. Coinciding with the participants' departure towards the hill, the procession's progress can be followed live from the square.
Upon arriving in the village with the lit bonfires, accompanied by the ringing of the bells from the church of Sant Esteve, the traditional Song of the Alàs Fallers will be sung, followed by the Ball Pla dance, with music by Sonsoni. The festivities will continue until midnight, when Dj PD Poma will take over for the closing party.
The Alàs Falles Descent is inspired by a documentary discovery that positions the celebration of bonfires in the Alàs region as the oldest in Catalonia. The document, dated 1543, is preserved at the Arxiu Comarcal de l'Alt Urgell.
