Last summer, the Equality department of the Alt Urgell Comarcal Council launched the initiative "Alt Urgell 1 – Discrimination 0". This campaign focused on raising awareness and preventing discrimination within the world of sports.
The main objective was to highlight situations of hate and harassment that can affect athletes, technical staff, and spectators at sports venues. According to sources from the Comarcal Council, "sport should be a space for health, coexistence, and enjoyment, which is why we want to prevent attitudes and behaviors that cause discomfort and hinder good coexistence".
Over the course of a year, the campaign has been complemented by training for sports entities, conducted jointly with the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan Police). Five sessions were held, one online and three in la Seu d’Urgell and one in Oliana, with the participation of 33 individuals. These included representatives from sports departments and members of 24 sports organizations from the region.
As support for the initiative, awareness materials have been created and distributed in municipalities such as la Seu d’Urgell, Organyà, Coll de Nargó, and Oliana. Participating organizations also received posters and stickers to promote the project's values.
The Alt Urgell Comarcal Council emphasizes that the sports context is "particularly sensitive" due to the convergence of emotions and competitiveness. Therefore, it seeks to foster sports practice based on respect, inclusion, and coexistence, ensuring a safe and discrimination-free environment.
